About
Laura Kate is from Melbourne, Australia and has loved singing and music since she was a little girl. The 1939 MGM musical The Wizard of Oz captured her heart at the age of 10 and she collected every Judy Garland movie thereafter. She became enraptured by classic movie musicals of the 1930's through to the 1960's and inspired by entertainers such as Doris Day, Fred Astaire and Frank Sinatra.
The daughter of Rock ’n’ Roll dancers, Laura has also been influenced by the music of the 50’s and 60’s, listening to artists such as Brenda Lee, Bobby Rydell, Rick Nelson, Connie Francis and Elvis Presley.
Laura started performing at school functions and local community events from the age of 12. She played in various musical projects including a Celtic Band and a Pop/Country Duo (The Gala Duo). In 2015 Laura collaborated with the phenomenal pianist Sue Goessling to create an album of Gershwin hits. In 2016 when Laura was in year 12 she played the role of Dorothy in her high school’s production of The Wizard of Oz.
Laura has received classical training on the violin for over 10 years and has had singing lessons from Australian opera star Barbara Zavros. Laura has been mentored by Australian soprano Mirusia, who has performed alongside Dutch violinist and conductor, Andre Rieu.
Laura has worked with a gifted guitarist called Lorenzo and together they have performed for the Marcette Tappers end of year concerts and at The Thornbury Local.
Since 2019 Laura has been teaching violin at Manhattan Music in Eltham. In 2021 she completed a Bachelor of Music at Victoria University.
Laura performs as a singer and violinist at public and private functions for various clubs, organisations and gatherings across Melbourne and Victoria. She entertains at seniors clubs, libraries, community markets, weddings and parties. She has performed at events for the City of Banyule, the City of Maroondah, the City of Whittlesea, the City of Port Phillip and the Shire of Nillumbik.
